Annecy and Mifa report record attendance; announce winners

The Annecy International Animation Festival and Moving images Film Academy (Mifa) have reported record attendance at this year’s event. The Festival wraps up today.

An estimated 3,000 professionals from 74 countries  attended Mifa this year’s four-day event.

The festival has also reported surpassing 10,000 accreditations for this year.

Demand also was high for the recruitment sessions with more than 900 applicants invited to take part in 75 recruitment sessions.

More than sixty studios including Illumination MacGuff, Pixar, LAIKA, ILM, Cartoon Network Asia, Mikros Animation, Xilam and TeamTo met young professionals on the market from all over the world. The professionals included 56% French, 37% European and 7% non-European.

Along with the organisers of the festival announced the name of the winners of the special prizes.

They are:

Festivals Connexion Award: Nothing Happens, by Uri Kranot, Michelle Kranot. Dansk Tegnefilm, Miyu Productions; Denmark and France.

Junior Jury Award for a Graduation Film: What a Peaceful Day, by Eden (Kai-Hsun) Chan. Taipei National University of the Arts; Taiwan.

Junior Jury Award for a Short Film: Valley of White Birds, by Cloud Yang. Wolf Smoke Animation Studio; China.

Young Audience Award: Hedgehog’s Home, by Eva Cvijanović. ONF, Bonobostudio; Canada and Croatia.

FIPRESCI Award: Negative Space, by Max Porter and Ru Kuwahata. Ikki Films, Manuel Cam; France.

Best Original Music Award for a Short Film: Radio Dolores, by Katariina Lillqvist, Kusti Vuorinen. Film Cooperative Camera Cagliostro; Finland.

 Gan Foundation Award for Distribution: Little Vampire, by Joann Sfar. Autochenille Production; France.

CANAL+ Creative Aid Award for a Short Film: The Ogre, by Laurène Braibant. Papy3D Productions; France.

André-Martin Award for a 2016 French Feature Film: La Jeune Fille sans mains, by Sébastien Laudenbach. Les Films Sauvages, Pelleas Films; France.

André-Martin Award for a French Short Film: Nothing Happens, by Uri Kranot and Michelle Kranot. Dansk Tegnefilm, Miyu Productions; Denmark and France.
