Chilean animation studio to present pilot of its new series Guitar & Drum at the MIP Junior and MIPCOM markets

Punkrobot Animation Studio in Santiago, Chile, the shop behind Oscar-winning animated short Bear Story, will present the pilot of a new short-form series called Guitar & Drum at the MIP Junior and MIPCOM markets, it is reported. Guitar & Drum (40 x 5 min.) centers on the titular characters and their other anthropomorphic instrument friends. Punkrobot partners Maria Elisa Soto-Aguilar and Antonia Herrera will direct the series that has secured financing for a first season. With the August 25 release of the trailer of Leap!, the Weinstein Company will be inaugurating a new animated features label called Mizchief. The new branch of the Weinstein Company will also serve as a nesting ground for future animated productions, according to the company’s co-chairman Harvey Weinstein. “I named the label Mizchief because that’s how my son pronounces mischief,” Weinstein explained. “Animation is a playful new direction for us and I’m thrilled to expand the TWC repertoire into a whole new category of films for our kids to enjoy and for us to enjoy with them. For its 22nd annual Excellence in Production Design Awards ceremony to take place on January 27, 2018, the Art Directors Guild (ADG) has introduced a new category to recognize animated filmmaking. The accompanying theme of this year’s ceremony will also be animation-related namely “Production Design in Animation: Celebrating 100 Years of Imagination.” “It is our intention to honor and celebrate great Production Design achievements in the remarkable and evolving art form of animation through this new award,” ADG event co-producer Thomas A. DreamWorks and Netflix have recently released another teaser video of the latest season of Home: Adventures with Tip & Oh. This time around they have done it in the form of a music video. And it is not just another cartoon music video, it features the voice of iconic pop diva Cher, who lends her voice to the Boov diva named Chercophinie. The song in the music video is titled Ooga Boo, and is exactly the kind of catchy music that one would expect from Cher. It’s also the kind of catchy music that will encourage viewers to abuse YouTube’s ‘replay’ button. It is hoped that YouTube will not limit people’s ability to re-watch a video for, say, a hundred or so times in a single day.

Disney XD has recently released a very short teaser clip of its upcoming animated series adaptation of the Big Hero 6 film that is based on a Marvel comic book property on YouTube. The first-ever European Animation Awards (EAA), that is to take place in Lille, France on December 8 has opened its call for entries. The awards, which are called the Emiles, launched its call with the animated version of Song of the Sea and The Secret of Kells director Tomm Moore explaining the concept: Moore animated the piece himself along with Fabian Erlinghauser, Giovanna Ferrari, Ross Stewart, Camille Chao, Ariel Ries, Guillaume Lorin, Louise Bagnall, Liselott Olofsson, Geoff King, and Emmanuel Asquier-Brassart. in addition to the Lotte Reiniger award for lifetime achievement, sixteen Emile awards will be handed out in the following categories.
