Filmakademie Receives Wins for ‘Rugbybugs,’ ‘Wedding Cake’

Double success: two films that were created at the Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg were bestowed with important industry trophies during the last weeks: Rugbybugs won a VES Award this Wednesday, February 12, and Wedding Cake received an Annie Award on Saturday, February 1. Nishtha Jain wins Best Director, Gitanjali Rao’s “True Love Story” Best Animation at MIFF 2014

Nishtha Jain’s documentary ‘Gulabi Gang’, won her the Best Director Award in the International Competition section of Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF).  The film is releasing on February 21 under PVR Director’s Rare banner. The seven day festival dedicated to documentary, Shorts and Animation films  concluded in Mumbai today. (more…)

Five kids series among Amazon’s second wave of pilots

Following a successful first pilot season that resulted in the production of three children’s series Annesdroids, Creative Galaxy and Tumble Leaf, Amazon Studios debuted 10 new pilots that are a mix of comedy, drama and children’s series. Like last year, viewer feedback will determine which series go into production. The voting is open to all for free on Amazon Instant Video and LOVEFiLM in the UK, but those that are chosen will be available exclusively to Amazon Prime members. (more…)

Now, Arjun to give Bheem some company

In a case of sibling rivalry--- or rather--- sibling revelry, after Chhota Bheem, it is now Arjun’s turn to charm our children. The laddu-loving Bheem, hero of the popular animated television series of the same name, has been the star crowdpuller for Green Gold Animation since 2008. Now, the company is busy grooming Arjun, the star of another animation series that it introduced last year, as a backup. “Bheem has been around for more than five years. He is a brand for life for us. However, we want to ensure that there is no overexposure or fatigue for viewers,” said Green Gold founder and managing director Rajiv Chilaka. “In the lifecycle of a comic character, there will always be ups and downs. Disney Announces an All-New Sing-along ‘Frozen’

Disney announces the return of ‘Frozen’ to theaters with an all-new sing-along version on January 21 Frozen audiences are invited to join the act—literally—as more than 1000 theaters nationwide introduce an all-new sing-along version of Disney’s Oscar-nominated, Golden Globe-winning big-screen adventure beginning Jan. 31, 2014. “Frozen fans have embraced the film’s original songs and its soundtrack with such passion—there are countless YouTube videos from people singing songs like ‘Let It Go’—we decided to create a version that would celebrate that enthusiasm,” said Dave Hollis, executive vice president, theatrical distribution, The Walt Disney Studios.
