Sarah & Duck to embark on its first live tour

            CBeebies animated series Sarah & Duck will soon set off on its first live tour entitled Sarah & Duck‘s Big Top Birthday which kicks off next month at London’s Polka Theatre. The UK tour will then hit the Royal Hippodrome Theatre in Eastbourne, England on May 29 before concluding at the Middlesborough theatre on July 9. Presented by MEI Theatrical in association with Polka Theatre, the production will display puppetry, music and storytelling. It will feature main characters Sarah and Duck as well as their friends like the Ribbon Sisters, the Shallots, John, Flamingo and Umbrella. Big Top Birthday has been written by Peter Glanville, artistic director of Polka Theatre and directed by Roman Stefanski.  Produced by Karrot Entertainm

Pixelatl in search of animated projects by Latin American creators

      As a part of its fifth-annual Ideatoon initiative, Mexico-based Pixelatl is on the lookout for animated projects by Latin American creators. According to the company,any creator can submit up to four projects while non-Latinos may apply if they have a partnership with a LatAm studio. Applications are due on April 24.   The 30 best projects will win a trip to Mexico in May to attend a project development boot camp to be undertaken by Joan Lofts, a former CBBC executive who had earlier worked on Peppa Pig and Tractor Tom.   Later, the 10 top creators will head to a summit during the Pixelatl Festival in September from September 5 to 9 this year.         Putting together Chinese heritage with British humour, China’s Magic Mall, Beijing and Cardiff-based Cloth Cat are making their new 52 x 11-minute series Luo Bao Bei in an animated preschool series. The upcoming series is based on a little girl character created by Magic Mall general manager Grace Tian in 2008. Since then, LBB, as she’s known, has become popular as a Beijing city spokesperson and road safety icon involved in community outreach programs.     Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Awesomeness TV, Brian Robbins has decided to leave the company that he has been helming for the last five years, it is learnt. Airing his decision, Robbins sent a note to the staff of his outfit stating, "the time is right for me to pass the baton and seek new challenges." The move of Robbins comes nearly six months after Comcast's NBC Universal completed its $3.8 billion acquisition of Awesomeness’ parent company DreamWorks Animation.     Toronto-based Cuppa Coffee Studios has inked a development deal with UK’s Polybank Designs for Pets Rock, a new animated series based on Polybank’s US$60-million licensing brand that interlocks animal imagery with pop culture.   Following on the footsteps of other popular animated canine-themed series like Taffy , Dog Loves Books and Rocket Dog, the makers of the series hope to capitalise on a new study showing that kids love their pets more than their siblings.   The concept will be unveiled before MIPCOM, which takes place in mid-October.

One of the most influential and successful filmmakers of early cinema, Lloyd was a comedian par excellence. As an actor, comedian, stuntman, writer, director and producer, the noted comedian made nearly 200 films between 1914 and 1947. He was a pioneer in the use of thrill sequences, daredevil physical feats, innovative camera angles, coloured films and 3D photography. Canadian Animation studio Squeeze has shopped its shortform animated series Cracké to Viacom18 in India, which will put it out on the local Nickelodeon channel and the Voot streaming service. The deal brings the show’s reach to 185 countries, and follows a recent launch in EMEA.
