Mumbai based Media Company Dishum Broadcasting has announced the launch of Dishum, a free-to-air Bhojpuri general entertainment channel. The channel, that went live on August 15, will be available on major DTH & cable operators, (Tata Sky, Airtel, Den UP, Site Maurya, Dash Digital) and other local MSOs. Dishum will have both fiction non-fiction in its programming schedule. The channel will also invest in exclusive premieres of Blockbuster Movies. After news came in that Disney will be launching its own SVOD service and as a consequence will be pulling its content out of Netflix, it was thought that all was over between the two. However, new reports have come in that some regions such as Latin America and Spain will still be able to enjoy Disney content through Netflix, at least for the moment. “Netflix’s subscribers in the US will have access to Disney’s films until the end of 2019 including all the new films set to premiere until 2018,” said Netflix in a statement. “Outside the US, our agreement with Disney remains the same,” it continued. As a result of this, Netflix subscribers in the affected regions will still have access to Disney-owned content such as Pixar, Star Wars and many Marvel franchises.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) is set to launch a premium high definition English movie channel named &Privé. It is understood that the channel, that plans to target affluent metro viewers in the age group of 20 to 50, will air exclusive television premieres of award-winning titles. Movies Now leads the English movies' category with 2,922 viewing homes followed by MNX, Sony Pix, Star Movies and HBO as per Broadcast Audience Research Council India ratings. The size of the English movie genre is estimated to be around Rs 700 crore and Star is the leader in the market and that's because of the legacy it carries.

Balaji Telefilms’ subscription based video-on-demand platform ALTBalaji will now be available on Vodafone Play. Vodafone Play is an on demand platform on which Vodafone subscribers can watch curated content. Vodafone Play has over 140 live TV channels, 14,000+ movies and music across genres and languages in its library. Other than video-on-demand platforms, the platform also has original content (Arré and SonyLIV). A source in the company has confided that such deals enhance the reach of the platform. "Vodafone Play has a large number of downloads and hence becomes a great distribution platform. Also, the telco has high ARPU (average revenue per user), making Vodafone Play a good platform for our content," observed the source.

In a surprising move , Netflix has cancelled its Naomi Watts-led psychological thriller series Gypsy after just a season. It is reported that the streaming giant had been in conversations with the producers about a second season and the cancellation decision comes after a writers room had been up and running for a month with work on storylines and scripts already underway. Lisa Rubin penned the project which marked the first starring role of Watts. But the show scored only mixed reviews when it started beaming on June 30th. CITV acquires animated comedy ToonMarty from Goldbee

UK kids net CITV has acquired Sardine Productions’ animated comedy ToonMarty from Barcelona-based distributor GoldBee. The slapstick series, set in Toonvile, follows an employee of Toonmart, the town’s biggest busybody. The 40 x 11-minute comedy series is produced by the Montreal-based studio Chop Chop Ninja Challenge, Leon. It was originally commissioned by Corus Entertainment for its French and English Teletoon feeds where it premiered last May. Earlier this year, ToonMarty was picked up by Nickelodeon International for its global channels and digital platforms excluding North America, China and Japan.

Splash Entertainment’s video-on-demand service Kabillion has launched a Spanish channel on Roku players. The new streaming service would offer both educational and entertaining content in the Spanish language. Some of the shows in line for broadcast include Dive Olly Dive, The DaVincibles and ToddWorld.
