Canada-based streaming service Playster acquires 350 episodes of Nevlana

Montreal, Canada-based streaming service Playster has acquired more than 350 episodes of Nelvana-produced content through a deal. Under the deal, Playster picked up non-exclusive streaming rights to eight series: Babar, Backyardigans, Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew, Bob & Margaret, Rupert, Hardy Boys and Berenstein Bears. The content is available to Playster subscribers in the US, UK, France, Italy and Spain. The deal comes as the streaming service looks to bolster its content library. In April last, Playster inked a deal with DHX to acquire more than 165 episodes from its library that included pre-school series Franny’s Feet, Trollz, Bo On the GO! and Animal Mechanicals. Before that, Playster picked up a number of live-action and animated series such as Transformers: Animated,

TFI acquires Super Wings to air on children’s slot TFOU

French broadcaster TFI has acquired the second season of global co-pro Super Wings which will air on the broadcaster’s children’s slot TFOU. Super Wings is a co-production of China’s Alpha Group, Korea’s Funny Flux Entertainment and New York’s Little Airplane Productions. The round an hour long toon that is aimed at children between three to six-year-olds follows the adventures of a transforming robot-plane that is trying to deliver packages to children across the world. The series recently secured broadcast deals for both Portugal and German-speaking areas with broadcasters Canal Panda and KiKA respectively. The show currently airs on NBC Universal’s pre-school channel Sprout in the US.

Wow Unlimited to acquire specialty channel from Bell Media

Canada’s Wow Unlimited Media has entered into a new partnership with Bell Media that will see the kids animation company acquire a specialty channel from the Canadian media conglomerate. As part of the deal, Wow will also provide children’s programming for Bell Media’s CraveTV and newly launched mobile app SnackableTV. The two Canadian companies will also partner to develop and produce kids content across all platforms, though no further details were revealed. While Michael Hirsh, chairman and CEO of Wow did not reveal which specialty channel Wow will acquire from Bell, he said that the new Wow-branded, ad-supported channel will focus on kids and youth content. Beyond Distribution has sold Netflix' original co-production Beat Bugs to Nickelodeon Australia. The channel will start airing the music-centric animated series on Nick Jr. from the end of May. The around an hour long series by creator Josh Wakely features re-imagined versions of famous Beatles songs performed by popular recording artists like  Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Vedder, The Shins, Robbie Williams and Pink!. Disney channel calls for second season of Andi Mack

Going by the great response the serialized comedy series Andi Mack has been garnering, Disney Channel has called for a second season. The series made its US digital premiere in March before hitting linear TV on April 7. The show, that follows the life of 13-year-old Andi and her overprotective parents, has garnered roughly 40 million views across seven digital platforms, linear TV and social media. Horizon Productions will begin filming season two in July in Salt Lake City. It is executively produced by Terri Minsky and Michelle Manning. Phil Baker is the co-executive producer. Interestingly, Andi Mack has several upcoming programming events to encourage more viewers, including back-to-back episodes on May 26.
