Australian free-to-air digital TV channel 9GO! has picked up the second season of Beyblade Burst Evolution, the newest instalment in the popular Beyblade franchise. The new 22-minute episodes debuted on the Nine Network channel on January 6 and will air regularly every day. Season two continues the saga of a group of Bladers trying to reach top status. Beyblade Burst Evolution is distributed by New York-based entertainment rights company Sunrights outside of Asia. (d-rights handles the toon’s rights in Asia and the Middle East.) The series is commissioned by Disney XD and Canada’s Corus Entertainment, and recently inspired a line of Beyblade Burst Switchstrike from master toy licensee Hasbro.
Netflix and Toho have announced that the first Godzilla anime feature ever created Godzilla: Monster Planet will have its global release on its streaming service on January 17. The film recently finished its theatrical run in Japan. While we all know about Netflix, it needs to be known that Toho is a Japanese film, theater production and distribution company. Located in a surprisingly wealthy part of Setagaya in Tokyo is the sprawling home of Toho Studios. Not only is Toho the largest and most famous film studio in Japan, but it’s the owner of one of the more internationally famous film logos on par for Asian cinema aficionados with MGM’s Technicolor roaring lion. In good news, Nelvana and Nickelodeon’s girls action series Mysticons will soon move to a new home. Starting January 13th Three Mysticons and a Baby show premieres will now be seen on the Nicktoons network in the United States. Additional premieres are slated in the weeks to come. Encores will air the following day at 7 am on TeenNick and 8 am on Nicktoons. Reruns have also been added to Nick Jr. The younger skewing channel will air the show Mondays through Fridays starting January 8th. Mysticons debuted on Nickelodeon last August. UK digital distributor MoMedia has inked a deal to bring One Animation’s Insectibles and Oddbods to iTunes and Google Play at the end of this month. The launch will kick off with a 44-minute toon package that will include two unreleased episodes of Oddbods available for US$5.99 in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, France and Germany. The short-form series Oddbods follows seven lovable characters that unintentionally turn ordinary situations into humorous events. The brand’s YouTube channel has garnered more than 2.4 billion views and 1.2 million subscribers to date.
