Last night, the European Film Awards (EFA) named Loving Vincent as the best animated feature of the year. The U.K./Poland co-production of Breakthru Films and Trademark Films has been directed by the husband-and-wife team of Hugh Welchman and Dorota Kobiela. Among its most talked-about aspects is its production method: the producers of the film say that over 65,000 oil paintings were created for the film’s frame-by-frame animation. The EFA honour which has been given out since 2009 and was won last year by My Life as a Zucchini.The category was expanded to four nominees this year, a reflection of the growing quality of feature films pouring out of Europe.

Good news for kids! Facebook launched its first social media app for children between ages 6 to 12 named Messenger Kids. Till now, the social media giant has been widely known as a hands-off platform for kids under the age of 13. The newly launched Messenger service includes videos, pictures and messaging capabilities and is available for free by way of the App Store for iPad, iPod touch and iPhone. Soon, it will make its way to the Amazon App Store and Google Play Store, it is understood. Messenger Kids is a separate standalone entity that can be controlled from a parent’s Facebook account. With the opening of a studio in Pune, Legend 3D, the U.S.-based 3D conversion and visual effects studio has taken a major leap into Asia. The facility is a 40,000-square-foot building based in a 10-acre Suzlon “One Earth” campus. It will be connected to Legend 3D facilities in Los Angeles and Toronto by secure digital pipeline to provide protected interconnected workflow. The building has LEED Platinum and GRIHA 5 star certification while the campus has energy controls and building management systems for minimal environmental impact. Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner will celebrate its 35th anniversary this year with the arrival of Denis Villeneuve’s sequel Blade Runner 2049 this Fall . But, just before the film’s theatrical release, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has made its plans clear to release a re-mastered 4K edition of the film, specially the 2007 The Final Cu’ which both Scott and Villeneuve have deemed the definitive version of the film. “Blade Runner: The Final Cut” 4K Blu-ray hits stores on September 5th, a month before Blade Runner 2049 opens on October 6th.
