Leading, independent, international media group and rights owner, Coolabi Group has named strategic licensing agency Lizenzwerft as licensing agent for Poppy Cat (Poppy Katz) in Germany, Austria and German speaking Switzerland. With this, the agency joins El Ocho and Landmark, the licensing agents representing the brand in Spain and Japan respectively. As it continues to expand its Chuck Chicken property, Malaysian production house Animasia Studio has entered into key partnerships with three Chinese companies. Guangzhou-based company TangChao Animation Technology Co. will serve as Animasia’s merchandising partner. The company is investing in the manufacture of more than 200 types of Chuck Chicken-branded toys and merchandise. Meanwhile, Leader Reputation Network Technology is developing a range of mobile content and games for China and regional distribution. Animasia Studio has also partnered with the VOD platform iQIYI, which is investing in and distributing Chuck Chicken mobile games in China. Veteran French producer Millimages has secured a number of deals for its best-selling titles that will bring them to audiences across Asia. Said group commercial director Grace Lee, “Asia is a proven market and we are very happy for the great performance of our programs. I am positive that the market will get bigger and bigger with extension of the digital market.” Numerous pubcasters have hopped on the non-dialogue short series Molang following its pan-regional acquisition by Disney Asia including EBS (Korea), TVB (Hong Kong), PBS (Thailand), OKTO (Singapore) and c (Singapore). Interestingly, Disney India has also picked up the 2017 International Kids Emmy-nominated series having already committed to another non-dialogue short format from Millimages: Kung Fu Bunny.

Known for its steam-centric electronic building blocks, New York-based tech startup littleBits is working out some big plans when it comes to coding. The company has launched a new kit designed to teach the foundations of coding and engineering through blocks and gaming activities. It will also coincide with the release of a littleBits Code Kit app that features drag-and-drop block programming based on Google’s Blockly. Also included in the kits are more than 100 activities and lessons for kids in grades three to eight as well as start guides for both students and teachers. littleBits, which joined Disney’s 2016 Accelerator Program after raising US$60 million in funding, is currently accepting advanced purchase orders for the kit, which will be released in June. Viacom 18 strong move has police raiding two stores in Mumbai selling counterfeit merchandise

      Troubled by the menace of counterfeit merchandise being sold openly in the market, Viacom 18 decided to undertake an investigation into all this. This led to a raid in two stores namely Shubham Return Gifts and Eliperi Stationery at Mumbai’s main market Abdul Rehman Street. The stores that were raided by a team of Court receivers of the Bombay High Court along with representatives of Viacom18 were found to be selling counterfeit Dora the Explorer products. The owners of the stores will soon be summoned to the Court to identify the source and locations of the manufacturers of the seized goods.
