Paramount Pictures has pushed back the release date of the third edition of SpongeBob SquarePants to July 31, 2020 from the original release date August 2, 2019. This besides Hasbro toy and game-inspired G.I. Joe releasing in theaters on March 27, 2020. Paramount has also slated Micronauts for October 16, 2020 against an untitled Hasbro film to release on October 1, 2021. Tabletop gaming fans can look forward to a new Dungeons & Dragons adaptation out on July 23, 2021. Hopefully, this venture will turn out better than the 2000 attempt. Sony Pictures’ Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is right now being shown in theatres. In the film, a group of teens find themselves inside a high-stakes jungle battle where beating the game is a matter of survival. The film has Iloura serving as a principal VFX facility for the film with contributions including the albino rhino sequence in which the heroes played by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan get trapped in a ravine after their helicopter is damaged. The three must now find a way to outrun a herd of stampeding rhinos. The sequence is almost entirely CG and among the most complex sequences in Iloura’s history. In all probability, Walt Disney Co. and 21st Century Fox could be nearing a $60 billion merger deal, sources say. If you remember, we had earlier reported that Disney had approached Fox about a deal to buy its entertainment assets which would include its movie studio and so also its entertainment channels like FX and National Geographic. If it comes through, the deal comes at a time of rapid consolidation in the media industry as traditional media companies try to scale to compete with tech-based media companies like Netflix. A merger would likely face regulatory hurdles, given that the Justice Department's anti-trust division sued AT&T two weeks ago to block a merger with Time Warner.
