China Film Animation Industry Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China Film Co Ltd, has signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Malaysian animation studio, Animamundi Studio Sdn Bhd.
The deal will see both the entities working together on the development and production of animation intellectual property for projects in China and North America.
The alliance is expected to spur the Malaysian animation and visual effects industry, Malaysia Digital Economy Corp (MDEC) chief executive officer Datuk Yasmin Mahmood said at the signing ceremony recently.
“With Malaysia’s creative content industry recording a high growth for export sales last year, contributing RM1.17 billion in totality, the development of the Malaysian visual effects and animation production capabilities has always been one of our key priorities.
“In fact, this industry, which is identified as one of the Entry Point Projects (EPP) under Malaysia’s Economic Transformation Programme, is expected to contribute RM3.04 billion to gross national income (GNI) and produce more than 10,000 jobs by year 2020,” she added.
The agreement will develop a foundation for both parties to tightly collaborate together in the form of production, investment, as well as industry best practices.
Animamundi Studio has delivered a number visual effects projects that appear on both feature films and television series for China and international clients.This includes Three Lives, Three Worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms’ and Dream.
Currently, Zhao Ge and Crouching Dragon are under development.
Animation projects that have been completed include ‘Sharp, The Bull!’ and Zhong Ying with two projects, Beast of Burden and Dragon Keeper currently ongoing.
Animamundi Studio is also developing its own animation intellectual property called Ah Yah.
