DreamWorks Animation and Universal Studios have reportedly cancelled the upcoming sequel to its 2013 animation, The Croods.
Universal Pictures’ chairman Donna Langley confirmed that production of The Croods 2 will be stopped immediately, following a meeting at DreamWorks’ HQ.
The Croods 2 had been in development since shortly after the first film became an international box office hit, pulling in over $587 million worldwide. Since things at DreamWorks Animation haven’t been going very well lately, they’re looking to cut corners in areas that they don’t seem to be very confident in.
As a result, around 30 employees who were working on the film will now be looking for new jobs.
However, workers have been told DreamWorks hopes to keep them at the firm and will work on other film projects.
The film was originally slated for release in 2017, but this was pushed back in August to 2018.
