DreamWorks Animation has teamed up with Blumhouse Productions for a film tentatively titled Spooky Jack.

Blumhouse

The film’s a dark comedy that takes a look at the world of eerie things that are conjured from the imaginations of children from the Monsters Under Your Bed to Leprechauns, Boogeymen, Bigfoot and the Chupacabra – about which parents for years have offered the assurance that there is no such thing.

Spooky Jack

In Spooky Jack, three siblings move into a new house and accidentally discover that the monstrous things they’ve been told don’t exist, do exist and they are as afraid of us as we are of them.

The project initially started out as a live action film written by Robert Ben Garant, known to have written Night at the Museum‘s. He is still on board for the animation version.

The live action incarnation stalled so DreamWorks Feature Animation Group president Chris deFaria was able to bring it to the world of animation.

deFaria had apparently been interested in working on another horror themed animated film since working on The Corpse Bride in 2005.

DreamWorks Animation’s Damon Ross will produce and Blumhouse’s Jason Blum will be the executive producer. A director hasn’t yet been publicly attached to the project.
