Animation prodco Ellipsanime is part of Dargaud Group, itself owned by publishing group Media Participations. Its international sales arm is Mediatoon.
Ellipsanime’s proposal was the one offering the most cash but keeping fewer staff compared to the other bidders.
According to Les Echos, Ellipsanime has offered €600,000 (US$820,873), and will keep only a handful of Moonscoop’s 25 employees, while the two other proposals – from Millimages and investment firm Capucine in partnership with some of the staff – were offering around €250,000 but keeping more people.
The Paris trade court decided on its preferred buyer on Friday.
Through the acquisition, Ellipsanime gains a programme library comprising around 1,000 hours. Dargaud already has a substantial library of its own.
Moonscoop, originally named Antéfilms, was at one time a fast growing company, buying France Animation, and after that 51% of US producer Mike Young Productions.
At press time, no information was available regarding Moonscoop’s US interest, which is been sold separately.
