Entertainment One has started the production of a new season of the hit animated pre-school series Peppa Pig. The production is being handled by award-winning studio Astley Baker Davies.
The Peppa Pig brand’s popularity dominates even outside of TV as the Peppa Pig: My First Cinema Experience movie fared impressively well at the box office in the UK last April. On the other hand, toy sales of the brand have gone up 12% year-to-date in the same region.
The property now boasts of 87 licensees in the UK adding toy partner Character Options as it gets ready to launch its new product namely Peppa’s Family Home on July 2017.
Outside the UK, the series is a leading girls’ pre-school property in the US, Spain, Italy, France, Latin America, Southeast Asia and Australia where the recent theatrical release grossed over $2.2 million at the Australian box office.
The licensor is on the lookout for new toy partner DTC in Brazil, where a fresh toy line will be unleashed from August. In Russia, the licensing programme has 40 partners signed across toys, games and confectionery.
Since the brand was first launched two years ago in China, Peppa Pig has generated more than 24.5 billion views on multiple SVOD platforms providing strong consumer traction for the licensing and merchandising program roll out this year.
The Peppa Pig merchandise also recently entered markets across the Nordics region where Character Options’ master toy line is being distributed by Top Toy. To follow in autumn 2017 would be bedding, puzzles and apparel.
It is said that the new product will increase the total number of Peppa Pig episodes to 381. The new episodes from season 7 are scheduled to air until the end of 2018 with the 117 currently under production set to launch globally from Spring 2019 in order to coincide with the brand’s 15th anniversary.
