GKIDS has acquired the North American distribution rights of three features of Japanese director Masaaki Yuas (two films from last year Lu Over the Wall and Night Is Short, Walk on Girl) as well as his visionary 2004 classic Mind Game.
The distribution house created an English-dubbed version of Lu Over the Wall that will premiere at the Sundance Film Fest later this month. All three films will also be released theatrically in their original Japanese language with English subtitles.
“GKIDS is incredibly excited to be bringing these three films to Yuasa fans in North America,” GKIDS president Dave Jesteadt said. “And for those who have not yet had the pleasure of experiencing the indelible creative brilliance that is Masaaki Yuasa, you are in for an incredible treat,” he added.
GKIDS has already released Mind Game digitally on Ellation’s VRV Select platform. A limited theatrical release of the film will start this February followed by distribution on other ancillary formats.
