Google Buys Launchpad Toys

GoogleLaunchpadGoogle has acquired the kids’ app maker Launchpad Toys in a move to expand its children’s offerings.

Launchpad Toys is best known for its two iOS apps, “Toontastic” and “Telestory,” which allow kids to create their own cartoons and videos, respectively.

Both apps, which previously cost money, are now available for free in the Apple App Store.

While Launchpad primarily creates applications for Apple’s iOS platform, it’s presumed that those offerings will expand to other operating systems under Google’s purview.

“We’re proud to announce that our little toy company is pairing up with a great big team of tinkerers to empower gajillions of playful storytellers around the world,” says a statement on the Launchpad Toys website. “Launchpad Toys is joining Google to create even more amazing creativity tools for kids. Today, we’ve made our digital toys and tools free to creative kids everywhere. Tomorrow… well, we can’t wait to share.”
