Google celebrates ‘Teacher’s Day’ with an animated doodle

Its Teachers’ day today, and our very own mentor and survivor Google has again found a creative way to honour all the heroes who showered us with deep knowledge throughout our lives.

The search giant Google celebrates Teacher’s Day with an animated doodle.

The doodle shows a happy spinning globe wearing spectacles. At the end of the animation, various icons surround the globe representing subjects such as physics, chemistry, music, mathematics, sports, geography, among others.

In India, Teachers’ Day is celebrated on September 5 every year in the honour of India’s former President and revered teacher Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was born on the same day in 1888.

Dr. Radhakrishnan became the second President of India from 1962 (to 1967), which is when the first-ever Teacher’s day was celebrated. He was a teacher at Chennai’s Presidency College and Calcutta University.

Dr. Radhakrishnan believed “teachers should be the best minds in the country”. However, he suggested instead of celebrating his birthday, it would be his “proud privilege” if the day was observed as Teacher’s Day instead. Since then students across India celebrate the day wishing their dear teachers today.

While India celebrates Teachers’ Day on September 5, World Teacher’s day, designated by UNESCO, is celebrated on October 5.

Let’s say a big thank you to all our teachers. Happy Teachers’ Day!
