Marvel another prospector to buy out 21st Century Fox!

Marvel

For a few days now, everyone has been guessing as to what would happen to the offer that Disney had made to buy out 21st Century Fox.

A few days ago one was fed with the information that Walt Disney is in talks to buy 21st Century Fox. The news is already a big deal because more than 90% of mainstream entertainment production in the US is controlled by only five companies, and Walt Disney buying 21st Century Fox would reduce that number to four – because it would end the long running feud between Fox and Marvel over the film rights to several popular Marvel IPs, including the X-Men and Deadpool.

However, there may be a potential spanner thrown in the works here, as a news has been broken that telco Comcast has approached 21st Century Fox, with an interest in acquiring the company’s entertainment and broadcasting assets.

Since Comcast is owned by NBC Universal, its potential acquisition of 21st Century Fox will still result in majority of film production in the US being controlled by four major companies, but it’s definitely going to prevent Walt Disney’s campaign to consolidate all Marvel film rights under one roof.

On the other hand, should Comcast succeed, the Fox Marvel films will find new company alongside DreamWorks Animation and Illumination Entertainment’s numerous properties.
