Nickelodeon has asked for a 12th season of 26 episodes for its iconic cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants, the No. 1 animated show for kids between 2 to 6 and 11.
The upcoming adventures of eternal optimist SpongeBob, BFF Patrick, Sandy, Mr. Krabs, Plankton and Squidward in Bikini Bottom will premiere in 2019, the show’s 20th anniversary year.
The go ahead signal of the series comes on the heels of confirmation of a third SpongeBob SquarePants film coming from Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies, also due in 2019.
The most-watched animated program with kids for more than 15 consecutive years, SpongeBob SquarePants season 11 will debut on Nick later this summer and feature the return of fan-favourite characters including Doodle Bob, Bubble Buddy, Man Ray and Cave SpongeBob of internet meme notoriety.
Created and executively produced by Stephen Hilenburg, the series features the voices of Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Roger Bumpass, Clancy Brown, Carolyn Lawrence and Mr. Lawrence.
Since 1999, the top-rated toon has welcomed guest stars like Amy Poehler, Mark Hamill, David Bowie, Alton Brown, Johnny Depp, Dennis Quaid just to name a few.
