Pure happiness. That was my reaction and surely the intended goal of this trailer. The Peanuts gang – Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus and the rest – are coming to theaters in 2015 in a 3D CGI animated film from Blue Sky Studios, the guys who made the “Ice Age” and “Rio” movies, so it’s got a solid animation pedigree. The teaser is little more than a reveal followed by Charlie Brown being upstaged by Snoopy being goofy. And that’s all you need. It’s like a bowl of warm soup on a cold day. The animation is spectacular, definitely beyond the flat 2D visuals of the classic cartoons, but still true to those visuals which were in turn inspired by the minimalist imagery of the newspaper strip. The whole thing is punctuated by Vince Guaraldi unmistakable “Linus and Lucy” Peanuts theme.
Much like Dreamworks Animation was able to rekindle interest in Mr. Peabody and Sherman among a new generation of children who are likely unfamiliar with the source material and Disney was able to fire the imaginations of children by relaunching the Muppets, Blue Sky Studios is sure to get young minds excited about something dear and near to their parents’ childhoods. “Peanuts” is due in theaters November 6, 2015.
