SPTN acquires three hit series from Jim Henson Company

Sony Pictures Television Networks UK has acquired hit animated series’ Splash and Bubbles, Dot. and season two of Doozers from the Jim Henson Company for its free-to-air Tiny Pop channel.

The deals come merely two days after Channel 5 head of children’s Sarah Muller was named kids boss by SPTN to lead its linear and AVOD kids brands including POP, Tiny Pop, POP MAX and recently launched AVOD service POP FUN.

Created by John Tartaglia, 80 x 11-minute series Splash and Bubbles from Henson and Herschend Studios follows the adventures of Splash, a yellow back fusilier fish and Bubbles, a Mandarin dragonet.

The series, which encourages kids to explore ocean science and marine biology, opened last year on PBS KIDS in the US and has since been picked up by Canadian provincial pubcasters TVO (Ontario) and Knowledge Network (British Columbia).

Dot. (52 x 11 minutes) that is based on the popular children’s picture book by digital lifestyle expert Randi Zuckerberg  follows the adventures of a tech-savvy girl.

The series is produced by Canada’s Industrial Brothers in association with Henson and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

It was sold to Hulu last spring after making its US debut on Sprout. Henson inked additional broadcasting deals for the toon last March.

Meanwhile, Hulu original Doozers, meanwhile, teaches preschoolers about designing, creating and making eco-friendly choices. The streamer recently ordered a second season that Henson is co-producing with DHX Media. Season one currently airs on Sprout in the US and has sold to German pubcaster KiKA, Video On Demand 365 in the UK, France Televisions and RTVE for Clan in Spain.
