Amazon Studios has greenlit for production a new Amazon Original, the animated lyrical series for preschoolers, Do, Re & Mi, from Gaumont, Jackie Tohn, Michael Scharf, Ivan Askwith, and Kristen Bell. The announcement was made by Nicolas Atlan, President of Animation, Gaumont, and Melissa Wolfe, Head of Kids Programming, Amazon Studios. “This series will be such a wonderful addition to our Amazon Kids preschool portfolio and we couldn’t ask for better creative partners than Gaumont and the musical talents of this producing team,” said Wolfe. “In addition to its beautiful storytelling and character design, the show takes an innovative approach to musical curriculum which will inspire our youngest customers to create their own language around music,” Wolfe further stated. A year and a half after getting the go ahead signal from Amazon Studios, Danger & Eggs, the new original animated comedy is officially set to make its debut on Amazon Prime on June 30 in the US and the UK. Amazon studios is eyeing the animation industry business with the first project as Emily the Strange Pop culture figure Emily the Strange, a punky goth girl, is getting an animated feature on her. The character and her assorted cats created by skateboarder Rob Reger, is in the process of being adapted as a feature film at Amazon Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Reger, a skateboarder who designed a variety of T-Shirts and skateboards, came up with the idea and design of Emily the Strange in the early 1990s. The character quickly took off, creating a multimillion-dollar business made up of comics, toys, fashion, and school supplies. Dark Horse Entertainment is in negotiations to produce the feature. They have been publishing Emily Comics since 2005.
Zodiak Kids announced today at MipJunior that it has secured sales for the Amazon Studios series it took on for distribution last MIPCOM. Zodiak Kids distributes three series from Amazon Studios – animated preschool series Tumble Leaf (season 1 & 2) and Creative Galaxy (season 1 & 2), and live-action series Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street (seasons 1 & 2). Following a successful first pilot season that resulted in the production of three children’s series Annesdroids, Creative Galaxy and Tumble Leaf, Amazon Studios debuted 10 new pilots that are a mix of comedy, drama and children’s series.
