Bringing the colourful world of the miniature superhero to billions more children, FremantleMedia Kids & Family (FMK)’s hit pre-school show Tree Fu Tom has been officially launched in China. Additionally, FMK have signed two publishing deals marking their first-ever licensing deals in the territory. Tree Fu Tom is an action adventure animation series set in the enchanted world of Treetopolis, where movement creates magic. CBeebies has asked Blue Zoo Animation Studio to produce a second and third season of math-centric pre-school series Numberblocks that was launched on the UK pubcaster earlier this year. The 30 x five-minute toon, owned by Alphablocks, is being made in partnership with the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics and is a joint-venture between Joe Elliot and Blue Zoo. The 60 newly commissioned episodes are scheduled to premiere in 2018. The show follows a group of characters that can be magically transformed by adding or removing blocks. Seasons two and three of the show will feature new characters representing larger numbers. In August last, Larkshead Media was appointed to manage UK licensing activities for the show working to bring Numberblocks merchandise to

Zodiak Kids acquires CBeebies’ series Tee & Mo

London-based Zodiak Kids has acquired TV distribution rights of Plug-in Media’s new 2D-animated CBeebies series Tee & Mo. CBeebies and Canadian nets TVO and Knowledge recently commissioned the new series from UK-based digital media production company Plug-in Media for broadcast in 2018. Following the daily adventures of a three-year-old monkey and its first-time mom, the series is produced in collaboration with Canada’s Radical Sheep Productions (a division of Boat Rocker Studios). Tee & Mo initially launched as an online commission from CBeebies in 2013, marking Plug-in’s first foray into original content. Silvergate Media has shared details of new and expanded fan experiences that are fuelling interest in its popular animated children’s TV property Octonauts in the UK market. To engage the show’s loyal fan base, the media company has recently launched a new initiative with long-standing partner Swimming Teachers Association (STA) that sees them team up with Virgin Active as their headline partner to roll out an Octonauts swimming programme for children. With two animated series viz Bubu and The Little Owls (pictured) and Cyberchase as well as the second season of CBeebies live-action series Do You Know, Toronto-based Portfolio Entertainment has increased its distribution slate. Pre-school series Bubu and the Little Owls (26 x 11 minutes) follows owls that take on nature with new inventions, songs and games. It will launch soon on Disney Jr. Latin America, with Portfolio taking all rights outside of the region. Also joining the refreshed roster is PBS KIDS series Cyberchase that is aimed at kids ages six to 11. Sutikki opens office in UK

  After getting a 50-episode order from UK pubcaster CBeebies  for its new series Moon and Me, Bento Box Entertainment’s kids and family division Sutikki has now opened an office in UK. Led by former CPLG exec Stephen Gould, Sutikki UK intends to focus on the EMEA region this summer. Gould’s initial focus will be to grow licensing opportunities for Foundling Bird pre-school co-pro Moon and Me that will premiere on the CBeebies in early 2018. Earlier, Gould served as MD for the UK and Eire at DHX-owned CPLG where he worked on a portfolio that included Minions, The Secret Life of Pets, Teletubbies, In the Night Garden, Twirlywoos and Care Bears.   His new role sees him team up with Sutikki founders Andrew Kerr and Irene Weibel who launched the company last October as Bento Box’s

            CBeebies animated series Sarah & Duck will soon set off on its first live tour entitled Sarah & Duck‘s Big Top Birthday which kicks off next month at London’s Polka Theatre. The UK tour will then hit the Royal Hippodrome Theatre in Eastbourne, England on May 29 before concluding at the Middlesborough theatre on July 9. Presented by MEI Theatrical in association with Polka Theatre, the production will display puppetry, music and storytelling. It will feature main characters Sarah and Duck as well as their friends like the Ribbon Sisters, the Shallots, John, Flamingo and Umbrella. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced the winners from this year’s British Academy Children’s Awards, which took place at London’s Roundhouse over the weekend. Cartoon Network’s hit series The Amazing World of Gumball scored two wins, for best animation and best writer. CBBC’s Horrible Histories special episode celebrating the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death won for best comedy. The drama award went to TrueTube’s Refugee, marking the first time the category has been won by an online channel. The victor in the factual category was the CBBC documentary The Boy on the Bicycle (My Life). First-time BAFTA winner Nick James was recognized for his role in CBBC’s Hank Zipzer. Iain Stirling, another first-time winner, was named best presenter for the CBB
