Zodiak Kids Secures Deal With Sky

Zodiak Kids has secured a deal with Sky, which will take on rights to over 150 episodes of CBeebies favorites Waybuloo and live-action crafts program Mister Maker. The episodes will be available in the U.K. and Eire through Sky’s On Demand service and its mobile TV platform Sky Go. (more…)

Britain’s Writer Guild Awards Goes To ‘BING’

Independent studio Acamar Films has won a prestigious accolade from the Writer’s Guild of Great Britain for its hit preschool series Bing, claiming the coveted title of Best Writing in a Children’s Television Episode for Bing “Bye Bye.” The lead writer for this episode was Denise Cassar and team writers were Acamar’s Lucy Murphy and Mikael Shields and also Ted Dewan -- author/creator of the Bing character. This latest recognition from the industry, following Bing’s recent BAFTA nomination and highlights the show’s editorial accomplishment and its unique appeal and resonance with an ever-growing audience of both pre-school children and the grown-ups in their lives. DHX Grows ‘Teletubbies’ U.K. Licensees

DHX Brands has appointed more U.K. licensees as it ramps up licensing activity for its new version of the TV series "Teletubbies." Copyright Promotions Licensing Group, the U.K. licensing agent for the property, brokered the deals. New licensees include Worlds Apart (furniture and accessories), Aykroyds (nightwear and underwear), Character World (bedding), Amscan (partyware), Bon Bon Buddies (confectionery), Posh Paws (bags) GB Eye (posters) and Zak UK (melamine tableware). Family drama Katie Moraig, Cartoon Network and The Lego Movie notched big wins at last night’s 2014 British Academy of Film and Television’s Children’s Awards ceremony in London. CBeebies/Move On Up co-production Katie Moraig took home two awards—one for drama production and another for performer, won by Cherry Campbell (pictured) in the title role. (more…)

Guru, Baby Octopus form creative partnership

Toronto, Canada-based Guru Studio has formed a creative partnership with Baby Octopus, a new Australian company founded by entertainment industry veteran Diana Manson whose credits include Mr. Men, Olivia and Max & Ruby. The first project on the development slate following this partnership is Pepi, a preschool/variety series based on a series of books by the same name from Laura Ljungkvist. The series, starring a curious cockatoo, will feature comedy sketches, running gags, bird dances and stylized visual bridges. Guru Studio also recently expanded into the game space with the launch of Guru Arcade. Cloudbabies flying into Germany, Austria and Switzerland

Hoho Rights, the commercial arm of UK company Hoho Entertainment, has tapped Düsseldorf, Germany-based licensing agency Active Merchandising to represent the preschool property Cloudbabies in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The news comes in the aftermath that the public, commercial-free German TV station KiKA will start broadcast for 52 x 10-min eps of the CG animated series later this year. (more…)
