Indian economy to get new reforms in the Intellectual Property Rights in recent years… Last week, Indian government assented to a new Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) policy. It lays out seven broad objectives – which include strong laws, effective enforcement, better administration, promotion of public awareness, human capital development, generation and commercialization of IPRs – which are to be achieved through ‘detailed action points.’ (more…)

Garfield Gets More Apparel Partners

Paws, Inc. has signed a range of new apparel licensees in the U.S., Brazil, Australia, Canada, the Middle East and France for Garfield. The Classics and Fright Rags have joined the character's apparel program in the U.S. with Classics focusing on tops and bottoms and Fright Rags featuring a horror-inspired version of the feisty feline. The two new additions join ODM, which has a line of men’s and boys’ tees currently at Walmart, and Paws, Inc. is looking to add more apparel partners to the U.S. roster. (more…)

Angry Birds Drinks Head to Russia

Rovio Entertainment has partnered with Baltika Breweries (part of the Carlsberg group) to expand its line of Angry Birds-branded soft drinks to Russia. Baltika Breweries will produce and distribute four Angry Birds soft drink flavors in the region. The flavors–Red (a tropical tasting drink), Chuck (an orange beverage), Bomb (a cola tasting drink) and Minion Pig (apple-pear flavor)–will feature an all-new can design that includes award codes that unlock “Angry Birds” content. Angry Birds drinks were first launched in Finland (2011) and Russia (2012) as an imported product. (more…)

China Opens First Coal-Fired Animation Studio

In an aggressive effort to tap into growing domestic and global marketplaces for animated entertainment, China has opened its first coal-fired animation studio in southern Guangdong province. Government officials proclaimed that by 2018, the new studio, Splendorful Gray Valley Productions, will generate more than 15,000 minutes of 3D family-friendly animation per year, fueled by a state-of-the-art coal burning power plant producing 50 million kilowatt-hours of electricity.
