Retail sales of licensed merchandise worldwide increased 1.7% in 2013, rising to $155.8 billion from $153.2 billion in 2012, according to The Licensing Letter, the leading source for data about the business of licensing since 1977. The U.S. and Canada, the largest territory by far, with a 62.5% share of the global market for licensed goods, drove much of the growth, rising 2.2% to $97.5 billion. However, many smaller licensing markets grew at a faster pace with China up 9.2%, India up 8.3%, Russia up 6.1%, and Brazil up 3.9%. (more…)

Taipei comics festival draws over 400,000 visitors

Visitors flock to buy comics and products during the Taipei International Comics and Animation Festival.   The Taipei International Comics and Animation Festival closed on Saturday after drawing a higher attendance and posting stronger sales than last year. The show attracted 409,000 visitors and generated around NT$180 million (US$5.9 million) in revenues over its four days, up from last year's NT$130 million (US$4.3 million), according to the show's organizer, the Taipei-based Chinese Animation and Comic Publishers Association.
