Production has begun on "Mira, Royal Detective," an animated mystery-adventure series for preschoolers slated to debut on Disney Junior channels and programming blocks around the world in 2020. Set in the magical Indian-inspired land of Jalpur, the series follows the brave and resourceful Mira, a commoner who is appointed to the role of royal detective after solving a mystery that involves saving the kingdom's young prince. The role of Mira will be voiced by 15-year-old newcomer Leela Ladnier. The announcement was made by Joe D'Ambrosia, senior vice president, Original Programming, Disney Junior. The famous Walt Disney fan event D23 Expo will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center in southern California from July 14 to 16. Season four of Disney Junior’s Sofia the First will premiere on April 28 on Disney Channel US at 11:30 a.m. The show, which is among the top two cable TV telecasts ever for kids ages two to five was renewed for a fourth season in April 2015 along with a fourth season for Doc McStuffins. Sofia the First is about a little girl who becomes a princess and then learns the characteristics of being a true ruler. The new season follows Sofia as she takes on a larger role in her kingdom and visits a new enchanted world called the Mystic Isles. It will also feature new guest voice actors including Andrew Rannells as a unicorn named Skye, Megan Hilty as the Crystalmaster named Prisma, Billy Body and Dominic Monaghan as two gnomes named Malachite and Fig and Jane Krakowski as a dragon.
The second bi-annual Irish Animation awards took place over the last weekend during Animation Dingle in Ireland. Here, Irish animation studio JAM Media lapped up as many as four awards. JAM’s hit series Roy won both the Kids’ Choice best animated series and the best writer for an animated series awards. Meanwhile, the studio’s spin-off pre-school series Little Roy earned the best director of an animated series trophy for Alan Shannon while JAM’s fourth award was won by Little Roy’s Wonder Doodler app in the best animation for apps and gaming category. In other categories, Lily’s Driftwood Bay from Sixteen South won the award for best animated pre-school series; Chris Nee and Kent Redeker jointly took home the best writer award for pre-school animation prize for their work on Brown Bag
Going by the Disney Media Sales and Marketing’s month-long presentations, the House of Mouse has announced that Mickey and the Roadster Racers and The Lion Guard will be returning for additional seasons on Disney Junior. Mickey and the Roadster Racers, which has reached more than 41 million US viewers since its January premiere, has been given a go ahead for a second season while a third season of The Lion Guard is also in the pipeline. As a part of its fifth-annual Ideatoon initiative, Mexico-based Pixelatl is on the lookout for animated projects by Latin American creators. According to the company,any creator can submit up to four projects while non-Latinos may apply if they have a partnership with a LatAm studio. Applications are due on April 24. The 30 best projects will win a trip to Mexico in May to attend a project development boot camp to be undertaken by Joan Lofts, a former CBBC executive who had earlier worked on Peppa Pig and Tractor Tom.
