    With the popularity of Star Wars growing and with Star Wars: The Last Jedi readying for its big-screen debut this December, Disney is ensuring that the brand continues to attract eyeballs to the small screen too. The House of Mouse has ordered a fourth season of  Star Wars Rebels that will premiere on Disney XD later this year. The show’s third season, which has an appearance from actor Forest Whittaker is currently airing on the small screen. Last year, it was Disney XD’s number one series as far as total viewers are concerned and drove more than 60 million consumer engagements across digital platforms. Disney wants a second season of DuckTales

  Disney XD has asked for a second season of its new animated series DuckTales. The order comes ahead of the show’s premiere this summer. The family comedy-adventure follows Scrooge McDuck and his grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie as they go on adventures around the world. DuckTales is based on the original 1987 series and was greenlit in February 2015. The series is produced by Disney Television Animation and stars David Tennant, Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz and Bobby Moynihan. Matt Youngberg is the executive producer of the series. In December, a video of the cast singing a rendition of the original DuckTales theme song was launched. This attracted more than eight million views across YouTube and Facebook.

  Disney XD is gearing up to telecast the second season of Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy that is going to premiere on March 11. Its first season debuted in 2015. Season two will follow Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot as they fight to protect Earth from an alien mad scientist called The High Evolutionary. The two-episode premiere will also see the Guardians crossing paths with the Avengers. The first two episodes will be available on VOD and the Disney XD app for mobile devices and connected TVs. Leading up to the new season’s premiere, Disney XD will launch six new shorts beginning on February 27, with a new one released on the channel’s app, VOD and YouTube channel each day. Pokémon Animated Series to be aired on Disney XD in USA

The Pokémon company international announced a multiyear animation distribution deal with Disney XD, making the network the new home for Pokémon animated content in the USA. Disney XD and its multiple platforms will air the 20th season of the popular Pokémon animated series and much of the Pokémon animation library, including 19 previous seasons consisting of over 900 episodes, plus 15 movies. Disney XD will commemorate Pokémon’s move by airing its latest film, Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel, that day. An hourlong preview of the Sun and Moon anime will also premiere alongside the film. PBS & Nickelodeon Leads Children’s Emmy Nominations

The 42nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards has revealed its list of nominees and PBS and Nickelodeon lead the field once again in the children’s categories with 50 and 18 nominations, respectively. Thirteen nods for long-running hit Sesame Street, and a combined 12 noms for  The Fred Rogers Company’s Odd Squad (co-produced with Sinking Ship) and Peg + Cat (co-produced with 9 Story Media Group), helped put PBS on top. Nickelodeon secured two nominations each for a number of its popular shows including Sanjay & Craig, Dino Dan: Trek’s Adventures (produced by Sinking Ship), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Peter Rabbit. For other kidsnets, online streamer Netflix earned 13 nominations, one more than the combined efforts of Disney Jr., Disney XD and Disney Channel. (more…)

Disney Asia Picks Up New Season of ‘Camp Lakebottom’

 9 Story Media Group announced that it has licensed an additional 26 x 22’ episodes of the animated comedy series Camp Lakebottom to Disney Channels Asia, which includes Southeast Asia, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The second season was also picked up by several other Disney territories including the U.S., the U.K., CEEMA, India, Japan and Latin America. Camp Lakebottom premiered on both TELETOON Canada and Disney XD (U.S.) in July 2013. Disney Orders Second Season of ‘The 7D’

Disney has ordered a second season of The 7D, the hit animated TV series which takes a comedic look at the world of the Seven Dwarfs. Fourteen-time Emmy Award-winner Tom Ruegger (Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures) is executive producer. ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Animated Series Coming to Disney XD; Watch Full Comic-Con Panel

Most people don’t know where Disney XD is on their television channel lineup, but that’s going to change soon. That’s not only where Star Wars Rebels will debut later this year, but also the home for a Guardians of the Galaxy animated show. There’s no word on exactly when it’ll air, but it’s a show that’s been in the works for a while. The characters have been appearing on other Marvel Animation shows for some time in preparation.
