If reports are true, Hasbro has made a bid to take over its main rival Mattel in a deal that would bring together two of the world’s biggest toy manufacturers. The news comes on the heels of the bankruptcy of Toys ‘R’ Us as the industry struggles with both online competition and dwindling demand for traditional toys. Thanks to licensing deals with Disney along with their film franchises at Paramount Pictures like Transformers and G.I. Joe, Hasbro has leveraged a Hollywood presence and turned it into fuel for toy sales which has succeeded.Their total value stands at $11.4 billion which is more than twice that of Mattel at $4.8 billion. The Wall Street Journal broke the news about the talks and the two companies have issued responses saying they do not comment on rumors or speculation.

In a new five-year exclusive deal that will see both the companies collaborate on live-action and animated films based on Hasbro brands as well as original content, Paramount Pictures has expanded its existing relationship with Hasbro. The new deal comes following a 7 per cent increase in Hasbro’s Q3 revenue and net earnings and the announcement of the second-ever HASCON fan convention. While terms of the transaction is under wraps, Paramount and Hasbro will co-finance projects including TV programming at various levels of investment. Hasbro sees 11 pc increase in revenue in its Q2 2017 results

Thanks to a continued growth in franchise brands, Hasbro Gaming and partner brands Hasbro has seen an increase in revenue by 11 per cent in its Q2 2017 results. The studio’s international revenue increased $426.6 million led by an 18 per cent growth in Asia Pacific. While entertainment and licensing revenue fell one per cent to $51.5 million, franchise brand revenue increased 21 per cent and partner brand revenue grew by one per cent to $230 million. Hasbro and California-based media company DMG Entertainment have joined forces to launch interactive Transformers-themed AR/VR centers across China.     The news comes on the heels of Hasbro announcing its first-ever fan convention, HASCON FANmily, which will prominently feature Transformers. The announcement also follows the launch of DMG VR, a new unit dedicated to mixed-reality experiences. While the first center will come up in Shanghai this summer,  additional Chinese cities will be added in the next five years. The simulation centers will allow guests to experience virtual versions of the characters of Transformers and interact with them by way of a variety of activities. As part of the brand immersion for fans continuing to grow at major entertainment conclaves like Comic-Con and Disney’s D23 Expo, Hasbro, for the first time ever has organised a convention from September 8 to 10 called HASCON FANmily at the Rhode Island Convention Center and Dunkin’ Donuts Center. The three-day celebration of Hasbro’s most iconic properties include My Little Pony, Transformers, G.I. Joe and NERF that will feature in a number of panels, interactive experiences, exclusive products and talent meet-and-greets. Star Wars characters to come together in a micro series soon

The most beloved and inspirational characters of Star Wars will be part of the cast of Forces of Destiny, a new animated micro-series. Produced by Disney and Lucasfilm, the series will launch on Disney’s YouTube channel this July. Daisy Ridley (Rey), Felicity Jones (Jyn Erso), Tiya Sircar (Sabine Wren), Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka Tano), and Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata, narrating the series) will all reprise their roles in the show. The two to three minutes animated shorts will explore all-new adventures of the fan-favourites. A two-part TV special featuring eight additional shorts will follow on Disney Channel in fall 2017.
