Curtains of Gamescom 2017 came down in Cologne on Thursday night with the presentation of this year’s awards. Sweeping the awards was the Nintendo Switch title Super Mario Odyssey which lapped up the coveted Best of Gamescom Award, the consumer-voted Most Wanted Award and three of the juried categories. Also among the winners were multiple nominees Destiny 2 from Activision Blizzard with two wins, Assassin’s Creed (Ubisoft), Middle-earth: Shadows of War (Warner Bros. Interactive), Ni No Kuni II (Bandai Namco). Autodesk has teamed up with Microsoft Azure to offer customers a new scalable cloud rendering solution with the Microsoft Azure Batch Rendering Platform. “We know that the scalability and ease of use offered by cloud rendering is important to our customers across industries, and we’re always looking for ways to help facilitate a smooth transition,” said Chris Bradshaw, senior vice president, Autodesk. “Teaming with Microsoft Azure gives Autodesk users even more choice when it comes to leveraging the right cloud-based rendering platforms for their specific facility and project needs,” he added. Cirque du Soleil along with Microsoft is testing how the Microsoft HoloLens augmented reality system could be used by directors and production design teams to better envision and plan sets for Cirque du Soleil's live shows. Incidentally, this is a technique that might also find its way to Hollywood productions. With the Cirque du Soleil test, directors and designers could effectively stand on a stage or set, and while wearing the HoloLens AR headsets, they could see virtual set pieces and props allowing them to better plan the look of a set before construction.
