The trailer of the upcoming animated 3D film Smurfs: The Lost Village has been released. Featuring the voices of Demi Lovato as Smurfette', Mandy Patinkin as Papa Smurf and Jack McBrayer as Clumsy Smurf among others, the film is based on the Belgian comic series. Written by Stacey Harman and Pamela Ribon, it has been directed by Kelly Asbury. Directed by Kelly Asbury, the film is scheduled to release on April 7. The film is based on The Smurfs comic book series created by the Belgian comics artist Peyo and is a reboot film, unrelated to Sony's previous live-action/animated films . Sony’s animated Spider-Man to be played by Miles Morales

Miles Morales will be the “star” of Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man animated movie. That’s the official confirmed news from Sony's just-concluded animation presentation, a morning that also saw footage from The Emoji Movie and the next Smurfs movie. The movie will be written by The Lego Movie’s Phil Lord, who also acts as co-executive producer on the project with his Last Man on Earth and Lego Movie partner Chris Miller. The Little Prince’s Bob Persichetti and Rise of the Guardians’ Peter Ramsey will co-direct. Morales was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli in 2011 as the primary Spider-Man for Marvel’s “Ultimate” imprint. Lawless Entertainment is delighted to announce their appointment as representatives for North America for Eddie is a Yeti, a property created by Toon Goggles that is targeted to children ages 6-12, for licensing, merchandising, and publishing. Disney’s Frozen, Warner Bros.’ Gravity and Paramount’s The Wolf of Wall Street topped the list of most pirated films in 2014, according to piracy tracking firm Excipio. Sony Imageworks to Close India Facility

Sony Pictures Imageworks is closing Imageworks India in Chennai, according to a report byVariety. Imageworks India was launched when Sony acquired Indian animation studio FrameFlow in 2007. Veteran VFX producer Joe Gareri was hired as general manager of Imageworks India and Imageworks’ web site still lists him in that role. Imageworks did not disclose the number of employees who will lose their jobs but say the Chennai branch reportedly had around 100 employees, very few of whom will be relocated. (more…)
