DHX Television has appointed industry veteran Gary Finnegan as Vice President of Programming Strategy. In this role, Finnegan will be a key member of the DHX Television senior management team and will report to Joe Tedesco, Senior Vice President and General Manager, DHX Television. The new appointee will provide direction and guidance on DHX Television’s core business of creating and acquiring content that will be universally popular and drive viewer engagement for DHX Television. Turner teams up with AAN for FupiToons Film Festival

Turner has teamed up with African Animation Network (AAN) for the FupiToons Film Festival, the first ‘made in Africa’ animated film festival aimed at kids between 2 and 12. Hosted by AAN in partnership with Ster Kinekor, the inaugural fest will run side by side DISCOP Johannesburg in South Africa, that runs from October 26 to 29 and will feature the premiere of four Cartoon Network Imagination Studios shorts. Imagination Studios was a drawing contest which ran in April 2017, created to inspire, motivate and celebrate the imagination of kids 6-12. Young participants were invited to come up with their own cartoon character duo, with the first place winner in each of four categories getting the animated treatment and set to appear on Cartoon Network across the continent on December 11.

Turner-owned UK pre-school channel Cartoonito has picked up CHF Entertainment’s new 2D-animated series Daisy & Ollie.   The 52 x 7 minute toon, executively produced by British comedian Jason Manford will premiere exclusively on the channel in October. The comedian will also voice for multiple characters in the series. Turner has claimed that it has upped its  investment in European production by 30 per cent last year and has also taken its biggest international original The Amazing World of Gumball in a new direction, with a puppet-based episode of the show that it revealed at the just concluded Annecy Animation Film Festival. The puppet-based installment of Gumball will go out during season five of the show and will also be the inspiration for a series of short form spin-offs. As part of TBS’ expansion of its original animation slate, the Turner-affiliated network has ordered 13 episodes of a new series titled Close Enough. The story concerns a married couple that attempts to juggle the challenges of parenthood, friendships, ham theft, stripper clowns, and basically every odd thing that happens to people as they transition from being 20-somethings to 30-somethings.
