Hotel Transylvania 3 beats Skyscraper, garners $100 million in worldwide opening

Amid FIFA World Cup and Wimbledon, "Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation" has successfully grabbed the Numero uno spot at the box office in its opening weekend, surpassing the Dwayne Johnson action thriller, “Skyscraper”, which took only USD 25.5 million. The monster-adventure animated movie opened to USD 44.1 million in the US this weekend, swooping into the number one spot in North America. The numbers put it on par with the previous movies in the series the first Hotel Transylvania opened to USD 42 million and the second to USD 48 million. Worldwide, “Hotel Transylvania 3” has already earned more than USD 100 million, including special Amazon Prime screenings in the US and early foreign grosses. Funimation Films has acquired the theatrical rights to the new Dragon Ball Super movie, entitled “Dragon Ball Super: Broly”. This is the twentieth film in the Dragon Ball franchise and is based on the story, screenplay and character designs of original creator Akira Toriyama. As a part of its distribution agreement with producer Toei Animation and the film’s international distributor Twentieth Century Fox, Funimation also secured the home entertainment, video on demand and broadcast rights to the film. The latest agreement builds on the 22-year long partnership between Toei Animation and Funimation, which has contributed to the global success and pop culture status of the Dragon Ball franchise. Funanimation’ s “Harmony” arrives in US !!!

On the heels of the limited theatrical release of The Empire of Corpses, Funimation Films announces that advance tickets are now on sale forHarmony — the second in a three-part series of animated films adapted from Project (Satoshi) Itoh’s novels. Harmony is produced by Studio 4°C and co-directed by Michael Arias (Tekkon Kinkreet) and Takashi Nakamura (Akira). Netflix, Rainbow to spin off Winx Club series

Just one day after announcing a revamped Popples series, Netflix reveals that it has teamed up with Italy-based animation studio Rainbow for a new spin-off called Winx Club WOW: World of Winx. Expanding the popular Winx Club franchise with a serialized storyline designed specifically for on-demand viewing, the 13 x 22-minutes series will be available in early 2016. (more…)
