Bollywood came together to raise a toast to the best in the industry at the 62nd Jio Filmfare Awards 2017, held on January 14 at the NSCI Dome in Worli, Mumbai. VFX is the most neglected yet the most important part of the movie and this year Shah Rukh Khan's company Red Chillies bagged the Best Visual Effects honour for "Fan". This award marked the third time Red Chillies VFX winning for the best VFX category. Earlier named as Dreamz Unlimited, later Christened as Red Chillies VFX, the unit handles the special effects of all his home productions and of some other movies as well. Rising Sun Pictures has been nominated for Outstanding Compositing in a Photoreal Feature in the Visual Effects Society’s 15th Annual VES Awards. The nomination comes for the studio’s work on the Quicksilver Extraction sequence from the 20th Century Fox film X-Men: Apocalypse. Nominees include Alana Newell and Compositors Jess Burnheim, Andy Peel and Matthew Shaw. “We extend our heartiest congratulations to Alana, Jess, Andy and Matthew on this wonderful honor,” said RSP’s Managing Director Tony Clark. “It’s very rewarding to see their hard work, dedication and creativity recognized by their industry peers. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed a preliminary list of 20 movies that were under consideration for Academy Award nominations in the Visual Effects category at this year’s awards ceremony. That list has now been cut down to a mere ten films, encompassing a wide range of projects that offered up visual magic on the screen over the last 12 months. “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” and “Kubo and the Two Strings” are among the 10 films to advance, the Academy announced on Friday.
