The Walt Disney Company’s U.S. television arm will create shows for Snap Inc’s Snapchat, Disney announced on Wednesday, in Snapchat's latest deal with a major U.S. media company. Walt Disney Animation’s Zootopia scored the most number of nominations with 11 noms for the animation industry Zootopia with 11 nomimations and Focus Features/Lakia’s Kubo And The Two Strings was second with 10 noms. Both are in the marquee Best Animated Feature race with Disney/Pixar’s Finding Dory, DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 3 and Disney Animation’s just-released Moana. The Annie Awards will be held February 4th at UCLA’s Royce Hall. Overall, Disney/Pixar dominated with 21 movie noms, with “Moana” nabbing six and “Finding Dory” getting three (including best feature for both) and Pixar’s lovely “Piper” leading the shorts category. Disney’s Q2-16 shows 9.8% hike with $340 million revenue growth

Comparing to the last year’s quarter, the Walt Disney Company Inc. (Disney) reported 9.8% year-over-year (y-o-y) growth in the operating income, i.e., $3,822 million  for the second quarter ended on 2nd April, 2016 (Q2-16, current year). 1927 ‘Empty Socks,’ starring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Discovered in Norway

A copy of a 1927 Walt Disney cartoon which was thought to be lost has been found in northern Norway, according to a report by The Guardian in the U.K. Empty Socks, Disney's first Christmas short, was reportedly found during an inventory of one the facilities of Norway's National Library near the Arctic Circle. The film starred Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, a precursor to Mickey Mouse, and has been authenticated by Disney cartoonist David Gerstein. (more…)
